Vietnam and Kankakee
Five local Vietnam veterans will speak Wednesday, May 23, at 6 p.m. as part of a program on “The Kankakee Valley and Vietnam.” The program is free and set for Room D124 at Kankakee Community College. The veterans will speak on their service during the war and related veterans affairs. Scheduled to speak are: Stanley Stam, business administrator of the Illinois Veterans Home who served with the 25th Infantry Division; Barry Baron, former longtime Bourbonnais Village trustee and recipient of the Purple Heart; John Fulton, a Kankakee Community College almnus of the year and recipient of the Purple Heart; Roger Bean, Veterans Service Officer for the Disabled American Veterans and a Navy veteran; and Jim Wasser, a brown water Navy veteran and mentor in Kankakee County Veterans Court. Phil Angelo will moderate and then conclude with brief remarks on the Kankakee County veterans on the Wall, who did not come home. The free program is part of the Lifelong Learning Institute at Kankakee Community College
