Job Title: Youth Development Coordinator
FLSA Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt
Pay Rate: $18 per hour
Reports to: Youth Development Director
Position Summary
The Youth Development Coordinator supports the successful delivery of all youth programs (sports, enrichment, day and specialty camps, clinics, etc.), as well as adult sports programs with the Kankakee Area YMCA. This role ensures a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment for participants, and provides on-site supervision and leadership for seasonal camp staff to ensure smooth daily operations. The Youth Development Coordinator plays a key role in implementing the vision and goals set by the Youth Development Director.
Essential Functions:
Program Delivery & Support
• Assist in the planning and execution of youth (and adult) sports leagues/tournaments, sports clinics, enrichment classes, and specialty camps.
• Serve as coach, referee or teacher for games, practices, sports clinics and specialty camps as needed.
• Set up and maintain equipment and facilities for all department activities.
• Ensure safety protocols and YMCA standards are always followed.
• Support the creation and distribution of schedules, rules, and team communications.
• Help organize and lead parent meetings, coach orientations, and volunteer training.
• Monitor program participation and provide feedback to improve quality and engagement.
Specialty Camp Supervision
• Assist in seasonal hiring, onboarding, and training of specialty camp staff.
• Serve as an on-site leader during specialty camp operations, ensuring safety, engagement, and positive camper experiences.
• Monitor camp staff performance, provide real-time coaching, and escalate concerns to the Youth Development Director as needed.
• Support daily check-in/check-out procedures and implement YMCA safety and supervision protocols.
• Coordinate with camp counselors and specialists to ensure age-appropriate and inclusive programming.
• Lead or assist in delivering camp curriculum and daily activities.
• Help ensure specialty camps meet license exempt and YMCA quality standards for safety, inclusion, and developmentally appropriate practice.
• Collect feedback from campers, families, and staff to support program improvements.
Operational Excellence
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of program areas and equipment.
• Report maintenance needs and safety concerns promptly.
• Support data collection for attendance, evaluations, and incident reports.
• Assist in marketing efforts and distribution of program materials.

Volunteer & Staff Support
• Assist in supervising and mentoring seasonal staff, especially during summer camp months, to ensure adherence to YMCA values and policies.
Community Visibility
• Support outreach efforts to schools, community partners, and local organizations.

Qualifications
• CPR/First Aid/AED, Child Abuse Prevention certifications required within 60 days.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Experience working with youth and diverse populations preferred.
• Reliable transportation required.
Physical Demands
• Ability to lift and transport equipment up to 30 pounds.
• Sufficient mobility to lead activities and supervise children.
• Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed.
